Kirkland Lake Homecoming Weekend

Trooper, 80’S Punk Legends Teenage Head and Suzie McNeil of Rock Star INXS
The Kirkland Lake Festivals Committee has announced the entertainment line-up for
this summer’s Kirkland Lake Homecoming pub. The event is the kick-off to 5 days of
events planned on Canada Day weekend as part of the 2nd annual Homecoming
Weekend.
Canada’s favorite party band Trooper, 80’S Punk Legends Teenage Head and Suzie
McNeil of Rock Star INXS have been confirmed to perform at the Homecoming Pub on
Friday, June 27th at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Suzie McNeil was nominated for Canada’s Best New Artist at this year’s Juno Awards in
Calgary. She rose to prominence as a contestant on the CBS program Rock Star INXS.
McNeil made the final four and was the last female in the running to become the new
lead singer of the popular Australian band.
Last year McNeil appeared as the character Oz in the Toronto stage production of We
Will Rock You. Her debut album Broken & Beautiful has already spawned the hits
“Hung Up” and “Believe.” The organizing committee for the 2010 Olympics has been
using McNeil’s “Believe” as their theme song leading up to the games in Vancouver.
Teenage Head was Canada’s most popular punk band in the 80’s. The Hamilton band’s
Frantic City album produced their breakthrough hits “Let’s Shake” and “Something On
My Mind.” In June of 1980, they sparked a riot when they performed at Ontario Place.
Later that summer they opened the historic Heatwave Festival.
The band quickly developed a reputation as one of the best live acts in the country. In
1982, Teenage Head’s Some Kinda Fun album featured the hits “Teenage Beer
Drinking Party” and “Let’s Go To Hawaii.”
Teenage Head has just released a CD of newly recorded versions of their old hit with
Rock N Roll Hall of Fame member Marky Ramone of the Ramones on drums. The cd is
available through Sonic Unyon music in Canada,
Teenage Head’s last appearance in Kirkland Lake was as the KL Hotel more than 25
years ago. The current Teenage Head line-up features original members Frankie
Venom on vocals, Gordie Lewis on guitar and Steve Mahon on bass, along with Jack
Peddler on drums.
In addition, organizers invited Trooper to return to Kirkland Lake to perform at the
Homecoming Pub. The band has sold out two previous Festivals Committee pubs at
the complex. Trooper has remained one of Canada’s most-treasured live acts for over
30 years.
Trooper’s hits include “Raise A Little Hell”, “Santa Maria”, “We’re Here For A Good
Time”, “The Boys In The Bright White Sportscar”, “General Hand Grenade”, “3 Dressed
Up As A Nine” and “Two For The Show”.
Tickets for the Kirkland Lake Homecoming Pub are in stores and
available online at klfestivals.com. The early bird ticket price will be $25, but ticket
prices will rise to $35 closer to the event.
The June 27th pub will kick-off 5 days of Homecoming Weekend events including a free
Canada Day concert at Civic, Drive-In Movies and several events tied in with the
Swastika 100th Anniversary Celebrations.
The Festivals Committee will announce the line-up for the free Canada Day concert at
Civic Service Stadium later this week.
